A Highlight from Parliament

A couple of weeks ago, Becca Wilson visited the Houses of Parliament for an APDAWG event discussing the important link between animal abuse and domestic abuse.

The talks were incredibly emotional, but they highlighted an issue that is so important to recognise and address. Protecting animals and people from abuse goes hand in hand, and we’re pleased to see greater awareness and progress being made in this area.

If you’d like to learn more about the proposed laws and campaigns working to protect both people and animals, you can find out more here:

Autumn Pet Safety: Beware of Wild Mushrooms!

Autumn walks are lovely, but did you know that some wild mushrooms can be extremely poisonous to pets?

Many mushrooms are harmless, but others can cause serious illness, organ damage and, in some cases, can be fatal. As different species can look very similar, it’s important not to try to identify them yourself.

If you think your pet has eaten a wild mushroom:

  • Keep your pet away from any more mushrooms.
  • Take photos of the mushroom, including the top, underside and where it is growing.
  • If safe to do so, take clear photos of a freshly collected specimen, including a lengthways cut, but avoid handling it unnecessarily.
  • Contact your vet or Animal PoisonLine immediately for advice. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear.

Never assume a mushroom is safe just because it looks familiar.

For advice and guidance, contact Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000. A consultation fee applies. If your pet may have eaten a poisonous mushroom, contact your vet promptly.

Team Spotlight: Cardiff – Meet Catherine Clarke!

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on our Cardiff team, managed by the lovely Catherine Clarke!

Originally from Devon, Catherine has lived in Cardiff since 2004 with her husband, two children and her much-loved pets. Dogs have always been a big part of her life, and her passion for animal welfare led her to volunteer at Cardiff Dogs Home, where she walked dogs of all breeds and sizes.

Catherine later became a pet carer before taking on the Cardiff branch of Friends for Pets.

Catherine is also a qualified Canine First Responder and plays a key role in organising Rachel’s Day, a charity dog walk held in memory of one of our much-loved pet carers, Rachel.

We’re so pleased to have Catherine leading our Cardiff team and providing caring, professional pet care to local families.

A Warm Welcome to Friends for Pets Clapham!

We’re delighted to welcome Sam, who is launching our new Friends for Pets Clapham team!

The Clapham branch will offer house sitting and pet visiting services, helping local pet owners find reliable care and peace of mind when they need it most.

We’re excited to have Sam on board and look forward to seeing the team grow!

Client Testimonial

We love hearing feedback from our clients, and this lovely message reminds us why our pet carers do what they do.

“We had a lovely experience with Angela, who came to our home to look after our dogs whilst we attended a funeral. She was absolutely lovely with them and gave us complete peace of mind, knowing they were happy and well cared for. Such a relief at a difficult time. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.”

Thank you for trusting Friends for Pets with your much-loved companions. We’re so proud of our wonderful pet carers who go the extra mile to make sure pets and their families feel supported.
