Retirement can be super exciting and gives people a lot more free time to enjoy what they love doing! It can also be daunting to some, as people go from having a very busy work schedule and routine, to doing significant less, which can take it’s toll on the mind and body.

Becoming a pet carer after retirement may help the adjustment into retirement, especially if you love pets but are not in the position to have your own. Being a pet carer still allows you to have the freedom and flexibility you want. As you can pick and chose how much or how little you would like to do. Whether this be occasional walks, pet visits or home boarding.

We have a couple of pet carers that have joined the FFP family since retiring and this is what they say:

I have worked for Friends for Pets since last September. It has been a great experience getting to know different dogs and their individual personalities and meeting their lovely mums and dads. The beauty is I get to have the company of dogs around me but also the flexibility of being able to fullfil my family responsibilities ” SP

“I have been a dog walker and dog boarder for Friends for Pets for 3 years now and it is the most rewarding and enjoyable job I have ever done. As a lifelong dog lover and avid walker it is just the perfect combination. Tramping across the Mendips or the Quantocks with one of my regular four-legged friends is my favourite time of the week.” NS
