Who are Friends for Pets?

Friends for Pets was founded by Becca Wilson. Becca has grown up and lives in the Cheddar Valley in Somerset. She currently has two horses, Fudge and Blaze, and two cats, Bob and Bella, as well as two young children to keep her busy! After completing her MSc in Animal Science, Becca worked for the Brooke Hospital for Animals in Pakistan and Ethiopia working as an animal behaviour and welfare scientist helping with research projects and teaching Veterinary workers for three years. When the political situation, making things a bit more dangerous to work abroad Becca took a lecturing post at a local college and taught Further Education Animal Science Students. At the same time Becca started doing some dog walking and pet sitting for a few people with the aim of having an animal based job that fitted around her horses. The word spread and soon the dog walking and pet sitting became a full time job. Friends for Pets was born! For info on some of the other key people at Friends for Pets please click here

Our Dog Walking Company Story

Friends for Pets was set up in 2008. Within a couple of months of starting up, word of mouth meant a couple of extra pairs of hands were needed to help with the need for our work. This growth continued until we had around 85 pet carers covering a large area of the South West. This was proving very difficult to manage by just a couple of people and so it was decided to franchise the company so each area could be managed by a person local to the area who could keep standards high and allow a more controlled growth of the company. Each franchise has a small, long-standing team of pet carers that become extended members of our client’s families, providing a tailored service for their pets. Becca is exceptionally picky with who is awarded a franchise and only looks for animal-focused franchise owners who are driven by the same ethics and standards as herself making us stand apart from other franchised pet companies. In 2016, we were a finalist for the ‘Customer Service Excellence Award’ at the Sedgemoor Business Awards and one of our pet franchise owners, Julia Barnaville, Bath and Bradford-on Avon franchise owner, won franchisee of the year awards and the National Mum and Working Awards. Find out more about our franchise opportunities here. Our future goals are to grow sustainably using the franchise model across the UK as well as continuously improving our pet and human customer services across our already established teams. If there is anything you would like to see improved within our teams please contact Becca on Becca@friendsforpets.co.uk. We are grateful for any suggestions.
